Bernard Lievegoed hat im Jahr 1939 die Gesetzmäßigkeiten in der Musik, so wie sie von Kindern beim Hören, Bewegen, Spielen und Singen erlebt werden, mit Schillers drei Prinzipien: Stofftrieb, Spieltrieb und Formtrieb verbunden und damit einen Ansatz für eineauf menschenkundliche und musikalische Phänome gestützte Musiktherapie geschaffen. Dieser Ansatz ist in seinem „Zonnehuis" zu einer reichen musiktherapeutischen Praxis gewachsen. Auch in anderen Ländern ist auf diesem Gebiet Pionierarbeit geleistet worden. Die anthroposophische Musiktherapie wird zur Gänze von einer musikalischen Menschenkunde getragen. Die Einteilung der musikalischen Phänomene Takt-Rhythmus-Melodie bei Lievegoed entspricht der kindlichen Entwicklungsstufe und wird eine andere, wenn es sich um weitere Altersstufen handelt. Lievegoeds Verbindung von Schillers drei Prinzipien mit dem musikalischen Werden des sich entwickelnden Menschen war ein genialer Griff und kann noch immer ein Ouell zu vertiefender Einsicht sein.
In his 1939 thesis, Bernard Lievegoed connected the laws of music as children experience these in their listening, playing, moving, and singing with the three principles that Schiller formulated for healthy human development: body instinct, play instinct, form instinct. With this, he gave an impulse to base music therapy on musical phenomena as well as on phenomena of human nature. The impulse has ripened to a rich music therapy tradition in the "Zonnehuis", a home for children in need of special care in the Netherlands, which Lievegoed had established. In other countries, too, much pioneering work has been done in this area. Anthroposophical music therapy is wholly embedded in a knowledge of human nature. Lievegoed's classification of the musical phenomena of beat, rhythm, and melody corresponds to the childhood stage of development; a different classification applies at later stages.The connection that Lievegoed found between Schiller's three principles and the musical development of growing children was a brilliant thought. It can be a source of inspiration, deepening our insight to this day.
