The adrenals as medicinal organ preparations

The adrenals were first described in the 16th century. However, their functions were not understood until the end of the 19th century, with most of the hormones only identified in the 20th century. At the end of the 19th century the adrenals ranked low in the field of organ therapy, and when adrenaline was discovered preference was given to the synthetic product. In the second half of the 20th century a few publications referred to positive results with a mixture of substances to represent an organ preparation, and the conventional organ preparations disappeared completely from the market. Rudolf Steiner did speak of the adrenal gland as a potentized organ preparation. A number of preparations were developed, but documentation has been sporadic to date.
