Immune checkpoint inhibition in oncology – An anthroposophic approach and consequences for mistletoe therapy

The use of immune checkpoint inhibition has changed oncological strategies in many cancers. It also established a new concept in oncological treatment integrating the immune system and the tumor microenvironment to a more holistic treatment approach compared to chemotherapy. Looking from an anthroposophic point of view reveals strengths and weaknesses of the immunotherapy approach. Taking these considerations into account possibilities are discussed how Anthroposophic Medicine can support cancer patients in the light of immunotherapy. Furthermore, the application of mistletoe therapy and its implications for effects and toxicity of immunotherapy will be pointed out with the aim to develop an integrative therapy of cancer.
