Spiritual science describes the relationship between the seven planets and seven representative metals, and the effects of three different types of metal radiation on the human being. Metal radiations affect both the earth's development and the bodily and soulspiritual development of the human being: 1. One type of metal activity (1°) radiates forth from the cosmos. From out of this source it enriches and "fertilizes"the still protein-like,young earth and thus enables metal deposits to develop. This kind of metal radiation is also present in human embryological development in organ formation and functional development. 2. Once the mineralized metals have formed within the earth, they radiate again into the environs (2°). This type of metal radiation is a sign of the earth's "decay" or"dying away" and is brought into connection with radioactive radiation. (Almost) all metals have toxic effects within the human being and are transformed "into their opposite" through protein sheaths: metallo-enzymes are active in many organ functions. 3.The metal forces radiating forth from the earth (2°) do not goon into infinity. They oscillate back towards the earth and are active in the human being in processes of organ transformation wherever previously gained abilities (walking, speaking, thinking) can be further developed through active learning. The scientifically researched physiology of metals is presented as a basis for seeking out evidence of the supersensibly described functions in the human being. The various iron processes are categorized qualitatively so that correlations between a Goetheanistic classification and spiritual scientific results can be drawn. The four different levels of substances in the organism, i.e. mineral, living, soul-bearing and the l-receptive level are initially explored with respect to iron. These four qualitative levels show how iron, in its various functions, is gradually "homeopathized" via transformation of the enveloping proteins. Iron demonstrates the salt quality in its storage and transportation functions; intracellular iron enzymes (haemoglobin/myoglobin, iron-sulphur enzymes and cytochromes) have a mercurial function; and in morphogenetic processes, the extracellular matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) have a sulphur quality. Matrix metalloproteinases mostly contain zinc and sometimes copper, manganese, cobalt and nickel, but no iron. The aim of this paper is to establish a basic understanding of the physiology of metals in order to develop interrelationships and correlations between traditional scientific and spiritual scientific descriptions.
