A brief look at the history of viticulture and special botanical features is followed by the cultivation and production of wine. The grapevine is an earthly plant, as evident from its material composition, but it is also open to cosmic qualities which we can see in gestures coming close to individualization. Wine has three characteristic constituents—spirits of wine (Spiritus vini), tartar (Tartarus) and vinegar (Acetum Vini). These are considered individually and then in terms of the Tria Principia. The medicament Kalium aceticum comp., a composite given by RudolfSteiner, consists of the three main constituents of wine and one representative of each of the three realms of nature (antimonite, Crocus sativus and Corallium rubrum). The manufacture and its logical development are explained. A list follows of more than 20 basic materials for medicines which the Weleda company produce from wine or its constituents. Cuprum aceticum serves as an example for aspects in the selection of raw materials, and the reasons are considered why synthetic chemicals are not considered acceptable in the manufacture of anthroposophical medicines.
