1:4,1 + 6 bzw. 1:7 und 1 + 9 bzw. i:io).

Potentized remedies play an important role in anthroposphically oriented medicine. Most of the starting materials are potentized following the rules set forth in one of the Homeopathic Pharmacopeias. Samuel Hahnemann is viewed as the founder of Homeopathy, and the potentizing of both liquid as well as solid substances is described in his work, the "Organon"(i). There are, however, historic sources that mention a secretive type of potentizing much earlier. Anthroposophically oriented medicine is greatly indebted to Rudolf Steiner for his unique and thorough understanding of this method. Potentizing is thoroughly "copied from nature", but it is the human being that serves as the blueprint. Making a trituration (solid potency) is a much more involved process than making a liquid potency, and the same holds true for the understanding of the process. The physics of it is explained in more depth, and a justification forthe pharmacopeia requirement of dividing and adding lactose in thirds is provided. It is helpful to look at the resulting numerological relationships (1+3 respectively 1:4,1 + 6 respectively 1:7 and 1 + 9 respectively i:io). The diminishing amount of substance and the increasing degree with which substance coherence is overcome within a row of potencies stands in contrast with the retention of the "coherence of the spiritual". The importance of decimal potencies (1 + 9) in anthropospophically oriented medicine is reflected in the relationship of the human being with the nine hierarchies and the nine layers of the earth. Mention of the relationship 1 + 9 can also be found in Rudolf SteinerVTheosophy".The three-folding of the human being into body-soul-spirit (and that subdivision into nine parts) can be brought into relation with the past, present and future ofthat being. For Rudolf Steiner, the three-folding seen in the human is also reflected in the plant. There, it is expressed in the root (salt), stem (mercury) and blossom (sulfur) process. The same three-folding is also seen in the addition of lactose in three steps in a trituration process. Potentization is an important principle, and Rudolf Steiner even furthers it by giving indications for an expanded range of pharmaceutical processes.
